We had a two night stay at Mariaville House B&B at the end of our 7 day trip around Ireland. It was well located in a quiet location and within easy walking distance of the city. Barry, the host announces himself as a qualified chef with Ballymaloe Cookery School experience and claims that his guests can be assured of a really special breakfast. Our breakfast had nothing special and was the least interesting of the eight we had in the different B&Bs where we stayed. The accommodation is not worth its four stars: we had a very small room, an even smaller bathroom and uncomfortable beds. The B&B is nice, the owners are extremely friendly and helpful. We were on a driving holiday in Ireland and they suggested alternative routes away from the crowds with fantastic views. Hope we had the smallest room. no room for bags or suitcases. The towels were the oldest, thinnest I have seen, was not impressed. The bed was not inviting. The breakfast area was not up to standard seen other places. To far away from city centre to be in walking distance, used the bus. Mariaville House was our first B&B experience in Ireland. We were most impressed. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was great but most of all the service was excellent. Barry and his wife did not only ensure that we found our way around town, they also assisted us in reviewing our travel plans to make certain that we were able to see the best of Ireland in the time we had. Do NOT ever book at Mariaville House! We were lost in Cork City and trying to get to the B & B. When we called the owner, he was so rude to us and said he had no idea where we were and couldn't help us. We ask other people for directions, but were still lost. We called the B&B again and the owner was even ruder than before, so we chose not to stay there at all. No excuse for this kind of behavior!Ginger German - United States (July, 2014)
